Balance Bike is an open source project to help children develop their balance and motor skills

Dedicated to a famous cyclist, this wooden bike for kids is perfect for developing coordination skills

This innovative product is a wooden bicycle without pedals to help children to develop and train their balance and motor skills. This, in short, summarizes the main purpose and goal of the Balance Bike project designed by the Kromlabòro Caserta FabLab.

Kromlabòro is a training and promotion center for digital craftsmanship located in Maddaloni near Caserta (Italy) and as makers, they decided to dedicate this useful vehicle to one of their fellow citizens; namely, the famous sportsman and cyclist Alberto Marzaioli who passed away in 2014. However, this Balance Bike that bears Marzaioli’s name is not meant to be a “commercial product”. In fact, the project is freely available to everyone and is a genuine and very effective educational and training tool for children. Let’s see why.

The development of a child between the ages of two to six is very important, in particular, for their motor skills. During that period, children begin to define themselves and to better understand their surrounding space and the correct movements to explore it. Mobility, therefore, becomes fundamental, and a tool like the one created by Kromlabòro is perfect for helping children to learn how to keep their balance and practice their coordination.

Thus, thanks to the Balance Bike “Alberto Marzaioli”, inspired by the professional cyclist who achieved excellent results in various competitions in the 1960s, children will be able to learn to love bicycles and sport of cycling from an early age with excellent benefits for their health.

As mentioned previously, the project has no commercial purposes but aims to be, above all, a training tool. In this regard, the entire project is available online and downloadable for free so that it can be replicated by everyone in every part of the world.
