Electrospider: a breakthrough robotic system for biofabrication
The talks will present the experimental development of ElectroSpider, a robot-aided biofabrication system properly designed for automatic manufacturing of 3D scaffolds for tissue engineering purpose by combining the electrospinning technique and the pressure-driven extrusion approach.
Compared to the current manufacturing approaches for the fabrication of multifunctional scaffolds, ElectroSpider was designed to avoid the change of working tool when switching between different techniques is needed in order to increase the accuracy and the continuity of the manufacturing process and to allow a controlled fiber deposition in the 3D space.
Examples of possible applications will be discussed: scaffold for in-vitro organ and biological experiments, artificial human skin and artificial leather, artificial bone and prosthesis.

Aurora De Acutis
Aurora De Acutis was born in Livorno (Italy) in 1988. She received her Bachelor and Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 2011 and 2014 respectively. She obtained a PhD in Information Engineering at the University of Pisa in May 2018, then she became a Post-Doc researcher at the Department of Information Engineering (University of Pisa), and affiliated with the Research Center “E. Piaggio” of the University of Pisa where she joined the Biofabrication Group and she is currently working on combining advanced fabrication technologies for creating scaffolds, in-vitro models, biosensors and actuators using smart and biomaterials.
