Geographic tools and methods for the mapping of the Italian Alta Murgia’s dry-stone walls. - Metodi e tecnologie geografiche per una mappa dei “muretti” a secco dell’Alta Murgia
The dry-stone walling art has recently become part of the UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list. Common to various countries of the southern-central Europe, the products of this art shaped the cultural landscape of several regions, such as the Italian Alta Murgia. Considering the brittleness caused by the absence of sticky materials, this heritage requires a higher level of protection, especially in a case like the Apulian one, where dry-stone walls extend for miles and miles. This contribution aims, therefore, to present a procedure for their mapping, both automated and at large scale.
