Civic Defence: Citizen Science as a possible approach against the risk of landslides - Difesa Civica: la Citizen Science come possibile difesa dal rischio frane

The world of makers and FabLabs can be of great help for the development and construction of low-cost and open source tools for monitoring even serious natural phenomena. In particular, the talk concerns about an experiment conducted in Basilicata (Italy) with the aim of involving makers and the local population in an early warning system of landslides in an area already indicated by the Civil Protection as at risk but without safety systems alert. Some low-cost and DIY instruments have been installed in the area.

Paolo Bonelli

My name is Paolo Bonelli, I studied Atmospheric Physics, I was a meteorologist for the Air Force and in companies in the electricity sector, where I worked on the applications of meteorology to renewable energy. I have always been passionate about scientific "do it yourself" and for about ten years I have approached the world of Arduino open hardware and software electronics, building various measurement and automation devices. I collaborate with wemake.cc in Milan. CoScienza Ambientale is a project of mine which aims to build tools for monitoring air and water for the use of citizens who want to defend natural environments from pollution and hydro-geo disaster.
