Sapienza University - Bolt 2.0
Bolt 2.0 is an Arduino-based home automation project that allows the users to manage and help the maintenance operations of an aquarium anywhere and any time through the Internet. Through a simple web interface accessible from a Laptop and from a mobile phone, the user is able to check the aquarium status and its features like temperatures, water level and the environment lighting. All the collected are available both in real-time mode and through a specific graph that shows the daily trends. Moreover, the user could manage maintenance operations like the followings: -switching on and off a light placed near the aquarium -activation of the manger (release of the food) -streaming video via webcam -activation of air recirculation All these operations could be performed through a multimodal interface that allows the user to interact with the system thanks to a voice mode or a classic mode.

We are 3 Master student at the Computer Science department at Sapienza, linked by a passion for technology and innovation. Initially for exam purposes, later on for passion and personal pleasure we started exploring the Arduino world. All the possible application of this powerful tool have been adapted to an hobby shared by all three of us: aquariums. That is how Bolt 2.0 was born, that system was gradually developed with with new functionalities due to the skills we absorbed during our study and working experience. We believe and hope that the chance we have to share ideas and experiences related to our project can be helpful and interesting everybody, both makers and and ordinary people.
