The University of Torino (UNITO) is one of the largest Italian Universities, with about 70.000 students, more than 3800 employees (academic, administrative and technical staff), 1800 post-graduate and post-doctoral students. Scientific research and training are performed in 27 Departments, encompassing all disciplines.

According to ARWU, UNITO is ranked in the top 200 universities out of 1200 at international level, with the best Italian placement together with other four universities (Bologna, Milan, Pisa and Rome La Sapienza). As far the ARWU field “Clinical Medicine and Pharmacy”, Unito is ranked in the top 100 institutions (76-100). With reference to the most recent national evaluation of the university system (VQR 2004-2010), UNITO is ranked in the top six ones in the following areas:

• first position in the industrial and information engineering
• second position in the areas of physical sciences and medical sciences;
• third position in the area of biological sciences;
• fourth position in the area of chemical sciences;
• fifth position in the areas of agricultural and veterinary sciences and law;
UNITO is deeply involved in scientific research and manages roughly 500 projects per year, both at national and international level. The long record of participation of UNITO in the EU strategic research agenda results from 115 FP7 funded research projects, among which 33 UNITO- coordinated projects and 4 ERC grants as host institution, along with 33 H2020 funded projects up to now.
As for internationalization, UNITO is involved in roughly 600 formal international cooperation agreements with institution from all around the world, in particular with Latin America, Mediterranean countries, India and China (besides Europe), including joint educational programs, both at undergraduate and doctoral level.
