RESPONSIVE SURFACE FOR SOUND MODULATION

The project comes from the study of responsive surfaces and sound with its behavior and propagation. Nowadays, the need to design environments acoustically adequate to their intended use is more important than ever; the acoustic reflexions in a room are very complicated because we have a space delimited by six flat surfaces; if the sound is reflexed by a flat surface it comes back to its source. Reflexion on convex surfaces has the tendency to dissipate sound energy in many directions, giving rise to the spread of the incident sound, it is frequently used in acoustic treatments because it allows to reduce the amount of sound jumping back to the source, and so to the listener. The sound hitting a concave surface, on the other hand, tends to concentrate in one point, the focus. Concave-spherical surfaces are often used to make a microphone strictly directional, collocating it in the focus point. So the necessity of using conical elements is imperative within the basic module of responsive surfaces. This structure il composed by four symmetrical modules anchored in the middle that, thanks to a system of belts and pulleys connected to a central engine, have a linear motion that depending on the opening or closing, can modulate the absorption of sound within the environment.

Livia Barone Lucia, Virginia D'Augusta, Matina Vitale

Livia Barone Lucia , was born in Foggia in 1991 , attended the High School N. Fiani in Torremaggiore (FG) . In 2010 she enrolled at ' University of Camerino , School of Architecture and Design " E.Vittoria " where she attended the course of Industrial and Environmental Design . In 2014 she graduated in Communication Design with a thesis on the promotion of the digital theater through interactive artifacts and social media . Currently she is attending the first year of Computational Design at the University of Camerino , School of Architecture and Design " E.Vittoria " , Ascoli Piceno.

Virginia D'Augusta , was born on 22/11/1991 in Augusta (SR). High School in second level college of scienze in Augusta (2010) . In 2014 she graduated in Industrial Design at University of Palermo .Currently she is attending the first year of Computational Design at the University of Camerino, School of Architecture and Design "E.Vittoria" , Ascoli Piceno.

Martina Vitale was born in Siracusa in 1989 , he attended the State Institute of Art A.Gagini of Siracusa . In 2008 he enrolled at ' University of Palermo , Faculty of Architecture, Bachelor Industriale. Currently she attends the first year of Computational Design at the University of Camerino, School of Architecture and Design " E.Vittoria " in Ascoli Piceno
