The project is in an electronic system that allows to power an electric water heater using a small offgrid photovoltaic plant, without an inverter. The system consists of 4 photovoltaic modules, an electric water heater, and an open source custom electric cabinet containing:
an ST Micro Nucleo board, a Raspberry Pi SBC, electronic components available at online distributors, and a custom PCB (or a hand soldered board).
The heater can be powered by photovoltaic modules and, if necessary, also by the electric grid. It can be monitored and controlled by PCs, tablets and smartphones via its web interface.

Antonio Esposito

Antonio Esposito got a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Systems Design at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". He then collaborated for some time with prof. Augusto Di Benedetto and prof. Nicola Pio Belfiore, both professors of applied mechanics at the "La Sapienza" University. In 2002, together with two other engineers, he founded Meccanio Srl, a small company active in the field of designing and manufacturing machines, equipment and plants. In Meccanio Srl, Antonio works as designer, and also in the field of R&D. In 2014 he came into contact with the maker movement, and was fascinated by it.
