Visible Light Communications
The project concerns a wireless light transmission communication system. Generally known as Visual Light Communication (VLC) or Light-Fidelity (Li-Fi), common LEDs are used at the same time for enlightening and data transfer. Information is transmitted by a modulation of light intensity of LEDs, and generally the variation is too fast to be perceived by sight. This kind of optical communication system has risen particular awareness from the international scientific community, due to their low energy consumption and their non-interference with other radiofrequency devices. At the Maker Faire, an interactive installation will show an Arduino-based system, which people can interfere with to see what happens where the data flow is interrupted or disturbed by external agents.

Stefano Pergoloni, Mauro Biagi, Andrea Petroni
Stefano Pergoloni is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Information, Electronics, and Telecommunication Engineering at Sapienza, University of Rome. His current research interests include optical wireless communications in the visible spectrum (a.k.a. Visible Light Communications). Dr. Pergoloni has served as a Member of the Technical Program Committee of several IEEE Workshops on Visible Light Communications.
Mauro Biagi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information, Electronics, and Telecommunications Engineering at Sapienza, University of Rome. He is responsible for the research activities in the field of Visible Light Communications in the RGB-Comm Laboratory. Prof. Biagi research interests also include multiantenna systems, cognitive radio, underwater communications and smart grids.
Andrea Petroni is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree at the Department of Information, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, Sapienza University of Rome. His research interests include wireless digital communications and signal processing, with applications to underwater acoustic communications and optical communications.
