Maker Faire Rome has always been one of my favorite shows. It brings makers, hobbyists and enthusiasts of all ages and genres together in one place. The ability to show the newest technology and the coolest STEM products is something that can’t be done to this caliber anywhere else. We at DigiKey are lucky to be a part of this great maker event.

Textile sensors for sweat analysis
The direct functionalization of textile fibers allows to realize biochemical sensor that detect crucial analytes in human sweat. The idea is to have a completely wearable device technology that is able to give information on physiological state of the user without any invasive analysis. Important information in human sweat are related to dehydration and to saline loss. The detailed monitoring of these parameters could be helpful for sportsman to improve their performances, to avoid cramps and to control fatigue. Moreover, in everyday life a correct hydration is fundamental to improve health and wellbeing.

Nicola Coppedè, Andrea Zappettini
Nicola Coppedè graduated in Physics at the University of Pisa and he obtained the PhD degree in Physics at the University of Trento. He has been selected in Calmed Spin off University Magna Graecia Catanzaro in 2007 in the surface properties of biomedical sensing devices. He was winner of a permanent position as researcher in IMEM CNR Parma in 2012. His research activity focuses on organic biosensors, in particular on textile substrates, for biomedical and physiological applications. He developed innovative device on textile dedicated to the monitoring of human physiological fluids. He is expert of the material functionalization with organic, metal oxide and nanohybrid materials.
