An innovative Early Warning System (EWS) enabling the real-time measurement of relative distance, speed, acceleration of a vehicle that is dangerously approaching to the vehicle on which the EWS is installed, e.g. bicycle or motorbike.
The kinematic data, acquired from a Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) are elaborated by an algorithm implemented on a microcontroller based – embedded system in order to:
i) estimate the risk of impact between the approaching vehicle and the bike,
ii) send an early warning to the driver of the vehicle on which the EWS is installed

Biomechatronics Laboratory, University ‘Magna Graecia’ of Catanzaro , ITALY
The Biomechatronics Laboratory was established in 2004 within the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine at the University Campus of Catanzaro, Italy. The activities are mainly focused on the development of innovative engineering solutions to the most relevant problems posed by Translational and Clinical research in the fields of Biology, Medicine and Surgery, through the design, implementation and testing of novel biomechatronic and biomedical devices, image-based diagnostic tools and advanced modelling, simulation and control of biosystems.
