SoRoNoThEv: le tecnologie della robotica soft a supporto della diagnosi oggettiva di patologie reumatiche

An innovative biomechatronic device that, by exploiting the most advanced technologies of soft robotics and embedded control, allows to: i) automatise the measurement of the nociceptive threshold of rheumatic patient, ii) support the quantitative diagnosis of the rheumatoid arthritis. The device generates on the articular joints of the patient a nociceptive stimulus through a soft pneumatic actuation provided by a Mc Kibben muscle. Safe human-robot interaction and high wearability are achieved by the adoption of soft actuation. The device has been validated through clinical tests.

The Biomechatronics Laboratory was established in 2004 within the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine at the University Campus of Catanzaro, Italy. The activities are mainly focused on the development of innovative engineering solutions to the most relevant problems posed by Translational and Clinical research in the fields of Biology, Medicine and Surgery, through the design, implementation and testing of novel biomechatronic and biomedical devices, image-based diagnostic tools and advanced modelling, simulation and control of biosystems.
