Robotics and Intelligent Machines Laboratory - University of Parma: Bringing robotics and intelligent machines out of the lab
We will report with posters and videos about the following projects:
1) Smart moving irrigation machines, which perform precision and variabile-rate irrigation (spraying) based on aerial surveys and sensor or in-vivo perception.
2) Industrial AGVs with advanced self-localization and self-calibration capabilities based upon 2D and 3D perception.
3) Aerial Unmanned Vehicles (AUVs) for remote inspection and environmental monitoring purposes. A novel remote piloting system takes advantage from real-time sensor acquisition and transmission to help the operator in identifying polluting or emitting sources, as well as other main regions of interest.

Stefano Caselli
Extensive academic experience at the University of Parma: full professor of Computer Engineering; director of the Ph.D. School in Engineering and Architecture; former chairman of Computer and Electrical Engineering undergraduate and graduate degrees; founder and director of RIMLab, the Robotics and Intelligent Machines Laboratory since 1990; former member of the scientific council for the Digital Agenda of Regione Emilia-Romagna.
I have an external life beyond academia. At the university I enjoy lecturing and mentoring students before and after their graduation. I assist in job placement of our graduates for optimal matching and reward of their skills. In the last ten years at RIMLab we have been mostly engaged in outdoor or industrial robotics research projects. Application areas include environmental monitoring, advanced agriculture based on smart irrigation equipment and requiring extended range operations, and collaborative robotics in industry and logistics.
Jacopo Aleotti
Associate professor at the University of Parma, where he teaches Foundations of Programming and Virtual Reality Systems courses. His research interests span topics in Robotics an Virtual and Augmented Reality.
Dario Lodi Rizzini
Research associate ay the University of Parma, where he teaches a course in Robotics. His research interests are focused on perception, localization, and mapping for mobile robots, including applications in industrial AGVs.
