Rabdomante. The Utopia of Water. / Glaciator. The Utopia Project
Glaciator is an art installation placed in Antarctica, composed by solar robots and their mission is to help and accelerate the ice formation process on glaciers, allowing them to grow with the addition of snow, regaining the mass they lost as a result of the thaw.
Glaciators are awkward in their movements but steady in their quests and are a symbol of the utopian ideal.
The Rabdomante stores the sun's energy in batteries that then power devices called Peltier Cells. Then, water condensation occurs on the cold side of the cells when they get in contact with the atmosphere. So, water is obtained.
The combination of nature with technology allows us to generate a new life cycle in the desert, obtaining water from the atmosphere in the driest place in the world.

JOAQUÃN FARGAS’ CURRICULUM VITAE
Artist-engineer // Engineer-artist. JoaquÃn Fargas integrates the artistic, scientific and technological fields in his work. Through science, he communicates the concepts and theories in a playful and poetical manner. Through art, he teaches how to grasp the properties of nature and become aware of its care.
His production is centred on possible or utopian proposals related to life, its preservation and the interrelationship between living beings and the future. In his work, he integrates biological materials and technological media aimed at breaking down barriers and generating possible dialogues and hybrid ecologies.
From the beginning of the 2000s, he has been incorporating digital and communication technologies as well as robotics into his artistic practice.
His work has been exhibited in museums, galleries and biennials worldwide. Over the last few years, he has developed a profuse activity entailing execution of works, ‘site specific’ installations, performances and academic conferences in all the continents, including Antarctica.
