Restoring tactile feedback in robotic surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is becoming an established surgical paradigm across different surgical specialties. MIS allows safer interventions, shorter recovery time with less risk of infection and complications, but it comes at the price of several new challenges for surgeons, as the absence of tactile feedback. Experienced surgeons, trained before the advent of MIS, used to strongly rely on it, and tend to commit errors due to its absence.
We would like to present on overview of our latest advancements in this field, including the exciting new idea of "artificial palpation" through robotic manipulators.
