A very strong event of the year for every maker. A place that inspires and teaches me something new and gives me the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with a huge number of people in one space. MFR helps develop my project through meeting new clients and makers.

AUTOMI DI CARTA: da un foglio di carta ad una macchina meravigliosa.
Paper, an apparently fragile material, finds an unusual field of application: the construction of automata, i.e. machines that replicate human, animal, or inanimate objects motions, capabilities, and/or everyday tasks.
PaperPino (www.paperpino.net), the name/brand under which I create my works, has introduced an innovation: the paper automaton in an assembly kit. Thanks to an innovative (though simple) system of removable pins, only the basic (easier) parts need to be built. In this project, PaperPino presents all the design and construction phases of "Leonardo's Mechanical Hammer" driven by a crank or a "sand" mill. The final model, obtained by assembling the basic parts, becomes a possible assembly kit, a game to give as a gift, with a remarkable recreational and educational content.
paperPino (Giuseppe Civitarese)
My name is Giuseppe Civitarese (aka Pino), from Visintini, Italy. I am an oceanographer, and in my second life I am a card models designer and builder. My passion for paper modelling began in 2000, when I decided to build a paper castle for my little nephew Matteo. Later, Matteo never built any paper model. On the other hand, since then I've never abandoned this hobby. My specific interest is in designing e building paper automata and models, and terrestrial and celestial globes from digital replicas of antique maps.
