What we already thought would be a fun trip turned out to be so much more: the love and enthusiasm of the exhibitors, attendees and Maker Faire Rome’s team for innovation, education, and general celebration of the maker movement was awe-inspiring. Innovativo prototipo di depurazione acque reflue
Phyto-purification is carried out by microalgae isolated from the wastewater itself and appropriately selected for the removal of polluting nitrogen and phosphorus loads. The purified water can be released into the environment as the concentration of nutrients is below legal limits. The prototype combines open pond and closed photobioreactor design to ensure controlled microalgae growth without significant external interference. Phytodepuration also involves the production of microalgae biomass that can be used for bioenergy purposes or to produce fertilisers for organic farming.
Prof.ssa Simonetta Pancaldi
Simonetta Pancaldi, Full Professor of Botany at the University of Ferrara.
His research area is mainly that of microalgal biotechnologies for organic agriculture, bioenergy, cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals.
She is a co-founder member of the spin-off company Alga & Zyme Factory s.r.l. which deals with the research and development of microalgae-based products.
