What we already thought would be a fun trip turned out to be so much more: the love and enthusiasm of the exhibitors, attendees and Maker Faire Rome’s team for innovation, education, and general celebration of the maker movement was awe-inspiring. There is so much to see that a single year in attendance is not enough, so if you ever get the opportunity, head to this show, soak in the sea of inventions, and make some great friends along the way.

Intuitive interfaces for human-robot interaction and collaboration
TheEngineRoom (TER) is a robotic research group at DIBRIS (University of Genoa). TER aims to embody robots with all the necessary skills for a safe and natural collaboration with humans. In this context, TER develops and integrates technologies to facilitate human-robot interaction. At Maker Faire 2021, TER presents two recent research results:
- An augmented reality interface for human-robot collaboration, allowing the human operator to observe robotic actions in advance thanks to a hologram.
- A novel data glove to track hand motions for gestural interaction and teleoperation applications.
TheEngineRoom
TheEngineRoom is a research group of the Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics, and System Engineering from the University of Genoa with different competence in the Robotic field, in particular in human-robot interaction and artificial intelligence. Our group has various international research patterns such as Keio University, Aston University, lInstitut des Systmes et de Robotique, the Technical University of Wien, and the Univesity of Tartu as well as local industrial patterns such as Dotvocal and Teseo.
