Digital Twin ESRIN
This project, being undertaken as an internship in collaboration with the ESA ?-Lab, aims at leveraging game engine development platforms to produce an early extended reality (XR) precursor of a digital twin of the ESRIN campus. It will act as a platform for the representation of a virtual world. For this purpose, raw imagery is acquired by drones and transformed into a textured multispectral 3D model of the whole area. It is then integrated with environmental data measured in-situ with specialised devices (e.g., air quality, vegetation health). The model can afterwards be explored in a number of interactive ways, either using a web browser or, after loading it into a game engine, using a virtual reality headset. When present on-site, the visualisation and interaction can be achieved through augmented reality using an Android app.
