Soft-Grippers with magnetic actuation

Soft-Grippers with magnetic actuation

The soft-grippers, robotic grippers capable of deforming to grasp an object, are enjoying great success for their ease of use for handling delicate objects such as fruit and vegetables. However, the inherent compliance of these structures makes them difficult to control for complex manipulations. We are studying how to combine soft-grippers with magnetic actuators that can add strength and variability to the movements of the grippers.
Moreover, we show how robotic thimbles can transmit the sensation of touch at a distance and in real time.
