Orazio il Robot per l'Autismo (ORA!)
Orazio is the human name assigned by Marco Picarella of Biosphaera to the robot Ohbot.
It is equipped with motors to move the head or parts of it and with sensors. It can speak and recognize specific words. It is programmed with a block language.
Orazio is been using in an ongoing experiment aiming to make it a tool for teaching and exercising the social skills of kids with autism spectrum disorder.
Orazio can also be an element of motivation for autistic kids as well as a mediator between them and neurotypical people (family members, therapists, friends).
The ease of programming makes Orazio customizable according to the specificities of the autistic subject.
Marco Picarella
Marco Picarella, graduated in Biology, works as a mentor of science and technology, especially in primary and lower secondary school.
He is an expert in microscopy.
He taught educational robotics and coding in about fifteen courses for students financed by European Social Fund.
He has created an original platform for the online teaching of educational robotics.
For four years he has been a teacher of inclusive robotics at the specialization course for teaching support for pupils with disabilities at the University of Padua.
Thanks to his experience in the field he has managed to combine science with digital technologies, giving an innovative cut to his teaching activities.
