A small table, where a metal ball rolls silently through the sand, endlessly creating and erasing beautiful patterns. In contemplation of the drawings one is there, in the moment, in the present. As in meditation. One is hypnotized looking at the perpetually changing patterns drawn, perhaps due to the amazing movement of the ball that seems to move by magic, or perhaps knowing that each time you look at it, the pattern will be unique and soon disappear forever. It is MEDIT-table, a kinetic sculpture that invites to meditation and reflection.
Alessandro Giacomel
An electronics engineer, I graduated in automation in the last century, when robots were the prerogative only of large companies.
With the birth of the maker movement, I have made many amateur robots of all forms. Passionate about art, I am unfortunately lacking in artistic talent. I therefore tried to build robots that would try to make 'art.' And so I have built robots that draw, paint and write poetry. Finally, I made a table where a little ball draws beautiful pictures on the sand, immediately replaced by others, in an endless alternation.
