Maker Faire Rome has always been one of my favorite shows. It brings makers, hobbyists and enthusiasts of all ages and genres together in one place. The ability to show the newest technology and the coolest STEM products is something that can’t be done to this caliber anywhere else. We at DigiKey are lucky to be a part of this great maker event.

Smart Materials with a look back: shape memory biopolymers
Biopolymers represent extremely interesting materials for large-scale applications in a variety of fields. Among their key characteristics is their processability through 3d printing technologies. This further extends the limits of research and applicability of these materials. Among the properties of biopolymers, shape memory appears to be really interesting for new applications yet to be identified.
Massimiliano Barletta, Daniele Almonti, Alessandra Piselli
The Processing Technologies and Systems research group of the Department of Industrial, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering of the University of Roma Tre led by Professor Massimiliano Barletta has as its research know-how the study, design, development and optimization of polymeric materials and their transformation processes. The ability to intervene on every phase from the realization of the material to the production of the finished artifact distinguishes the operational capacity of the research group.
