Maker Faire Rome has always been one of my favorite shows. It brings makers, hobbyists and enthusiasts of all ages and genres together in one place. The ability to show the newest technology and the coolest STEM products is something that can’t be done to this caliber anywhere else. We at DigiKey are lucky to be a part of this great maker event.

Amadeus
Amadeus is to be placed into the area of IoT because it allows to control home devices through Internet, without coming into contact with them. It links different technologies, suitable for real installations and not expensive. They are:
• Modbus, a serial protocol used for over 40 years in industrial communications, which can communicate with photovoltaic inverters, temperature control systems, heat generators, etc.
• Node-RED, a programming tool developed by IBM for IoT applications which allows to transfer data and controls to and from devices such as smart lights and WIFI home appliances e to access the Internet services such as API Meteo, IFTT, Telegram and voice assistants (Amazon Alexa and Google Home).
The work consists in the realization of a 3D model of a simple housing unit and in the installation of some automated plant demos.
The PLC The PLC is connected via MODBUS expansion to a Raspberry, programmed so as to be transmitted by mobile device the activation commands of the various systems (lights, alarm, heating/cooling, opening/closing doors) and to and to provide the user with information/alerts about them.
The sensors from which data come are installed at the PLC inputs through special interfaces and the actuators which activate the home devices are linked to the PLC outputs.
For the management of inputs and outputs we used a PLC programmed with FBD language. Raspberry connected to the home WIFI network acts as a bridge between the mobile device from which the user gives his orders and the PLC via the Modbus Protocol RTU.
We used Node-RED to program the functions of data flows between the devices, interpretated as network nodes.
In our case we programmed in Javascript a 16 bit decoding node to make efficient the Modbus communications.
Istituto Omnicomprensivo Avogadro Vinci di Abbadia San Salvatore classi 5C-5G dell'anno scolastico 2019-2020
