Machine-Learning (ML) Detection of Cancerous Cells
What is the context of your innovation?
A crucial test for detecting cancer is the visual inspection of biopsy images in order to evaluate possible tissue and cellular alterations
characteristics of the pathology. The inspection takes place with traditional imaging tests (ultrasound, CT, MRI) requiring long times which could worsen the patient's condition.
What is your project about?
An automatic inspection system is strongly necessary to support the clinician
in the reporting of the examination and reduce working times by improving performance and eliminating inter- and intra-operator dependency. Early diagnosis would place the patient on the list of treatable subjects with a high probability of recovery.
What are the next steps?
The project was born from an interdisciplinary collaboration between the DIET of Sapienza and the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital (OPBG,IRCCS), which gave rise to the joint filing of a national patent, now being extended in Europe and the USA. Future work will involve creating a friendly interface to support the doctor.
