AI-driven vision system for drone flight control

AI-driven vision system for drone flight control

What is the context of your innovation?
The project covers various fields, from robotics to artificial intelligence. At the moment the project is not a real novelty because it uses open-source AI models, but the future idea is to replace the hand detection module with systems that can dynamically change the target to be recognized and followed

What is your project about?
This idea represents something never done. Usually visual references are used only to stabilize the flight of drones in the absence of GPS but no one has ever used a moving target to guide a drone indoors. Even classic follow me systems are usually based on a GPS signal

What are the next steps?
The project represents a first step for future research on autonomous navigation with semantic awareness. This first prototype is working

The team is part of the "Signal and Systems for Telecommunications" laboratory of the Polytechnic of Bari. For years we have been developing robotics research projects and collaborating with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Engineers in the team have wide knowledge in the field of telecommunications, computer networks, robotics and Artificial Intelligence. In the past, autonomous mobile robots have been realized, by focusing on state estimation algorithms in GPS-denied environments. With the NASA JPL, we have also developed a framework for optimized multi-robot localization.
