Nuovi strumenti per svelare i misteri dell'Arte
What is the context of your innovation?
The field of diagnostics applied to works of art is constantly evolving. Each work of art is unique and represents a complex system, and is the result not only of the artist's executive phases, but also of subsequent restoration interventions and changes of ownership.
What is your project about?
Our scanning system integrates several of these technologies into a single instrument, enabling the simultaneous acquisition of chemical, physical and structural data. This combined approach not only increases the efficiency of the analyses, but also improves the quality and completeness of the information obtained.
What are the next steps?
A recent use of the system was in the study of a nineteenth-century copy of Raphael's Spasimo di Sicilia, commissioned by Queen Isabella II of Spain, to analyze the pictorial technique and conservation history, detecting bullet holes presumably from the Francoist war via filometry.
