An Adaptive Vertical Farm for Space

An Adaptive Vertical Farm for Space

The cultivation of vegetables in space is a pioneering and challenging field. We present the patented prototype of the Adaptive Vertical Farm (AVF) for space cultivation, developed by Space V, a University of Genoa spin-off, in collaboration with the Polytechnic School of the University of Genoa. This vertical greenhouse features adjustable shelves according to the growth stage of crops, maximizing production yield per unit volume and reducing energy consumption for environmental control. The demonstrator, consisting of three growing shelves, will be on display at the fair.

An Adaptive Vertical Farm for Space

Space V

Space V, a spin-off from the University of Genoa, is working on the design and development of an innovative vertical greenhouse dedicated to growing plants in orbital stations and future settlements on the Moon and Mars. The team includes entrepreneurs, engineers and mathematicians, with close collaboration between the startup and the University of Genoa. The scientific manager of the project is Patrizia Bagnerini, professor of numerical analysis at the University of Genoa and founder member of Space V.
