What is the context of your innovation?
Spark develops rovers for exploration and mapping capable of operating autonomously even in small environments or ones that are difficult for human operations to access. Rovers find application both in the space field but also in the terrestrial field for search and rescue, in the industrial environment and in the archaeological field.



What is your project about?
Rovers can be used where human operations are risky. Furthermore, mapping operations with traditional techniques may require cumbersome and expensive instrumentation, our project aims to overcome these limitations by managing to carry out the operations autonomously, with reduced dimensions and at low costs.



What are the next steps?
We developed the first prototype and are currently testing it. Numerous tests have been performed in synthetic environments to test the software algorithms.

The project is managed by Alessandro Ardito and Massimiliano Mattioli, two of the founders of Spark Srl.
Gianmarco Maisano, graduated in Aerospace engineering, develops the hardware while Alessio Parmeggiani and Valerio Spagnoli, with a Msc in Artificial Intelligence & Robotics develop the software.
The team gained experience in developing robotic systems by participating in the previous years in student associations and international competitions, for which Alessio and Gianmarco already built rovers using similar technologies.
