"MASSIMO": The Italian MASS (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship) concept to reach the IMO's level MASS=4 - "MASSIMO": Il concetto italiano di MASS (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship) per raggiungere il livello MASS=4 dell'IMO

The global maritime clusters are facing with the concept of autonomous ships. Some countries are already at very high levels of development and full scale ships "highly autonomous" are already in service. On the other hand, a wide number of issues related to technical, instrastructural, legal, ethical matters and the worldwide community are still open and still facing with general aspects and points to be shared and properly addressed first of all at IMO's (International Maritime Organization) level.
The idea of the proposal is to realize a "technological ecosystem" where large sized ship's scaled models at the highest MASS=4 level could be today used instead of full scale ships (available today at MASS=2 level) in order to undertake the necessary experimental validation of both technological and AI solutions as "pre-sea test area" with very impressive benefits in terms of technology readness, costs, environmental risks, time scale reduction.

He's involved in a number of national and international working goups, among the others the MASSPeople working group.
