Virtual Reality: ethics, film and technology - Realtà Virtuale: etica, cinema e tecnologia
What is virtual reality and how does it relate to us as human beings? Why are we frightened if we think we're experiencing something we know doesn't exist? What are the differences between augmented and virtual reality, and why does the former surround us more than the latter? How are these three-dimensional worlds becoming part of animated cinema?
The world of virtual and augmented reality is boundless, and during this talk we will discuss just a few aspects of it. In particular, we will analyze the foundations of XR, crossing ethics, animation cinema and human perception.
XR, in fact, being a 360-degree tool, has become part of multiple sectors and has generated as many questions about its proper use and what it will bring to us in the future.
Emilia Gozzano was born in Rome in 1998, and after studying Cognitive Science she graduated at the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Turin in 2020 in animation, with the experimental film "Lucerna". With this graduation short film she experiments with virtual reality - and specifically with the Tilt Brush software - creating VR environments for 2D animation; she then makes a video game with the same technique during GGJ 2021, and later on she got selected for the AiRLovere 2021 residency where she makes another short film with this mixed technique: backgrounds in virtual reality and characters in traditional 2D animation. Her goal is to make a VR experience with this innovative technique.
