FabLab Poliba is a laboratory of the Politecnico di Bari, co-managed by the Municipality of Bitonto through the Fablab Bitonto cultural association, conceived and created on the model proposed by the MIT FabAccademy and therefore linked to an international network of laboratories that share the “Maker” philosophy. In recent years it has specialised in the development and application of innovative technologies and processes for digital manufacturing. The Fablab Poliba represents an open and inclusive community for artisans, professionals, businesses, researchers and students where innovative projects can be developed and knowledge shared.
At Maker Faire Rome 2021 this year FabLab Poliba, in collaboration with MArTa of Taranto, brought a project dedicated to the development of new sensory experiences for the enjoyment of cultural heritage.
The opportunities of digital manufacturing
The project aims to develop a path of innovation and research to extend the use of cultural heritage to a wider audience, exploiting the possibilities offered by digital fabrication. The aim is to reduce the distance between the cultural heritage and its users, making them visit-actors and involving them in a tangible reality to be discovered with an active and intuitive approach. The archaeological finds from the MArTA will be the protagonists of these experiences, through reproductions made using new technologies such as scanning and 3D printing.
