Sonia Massari

Dr. Sonia Massari has more than 20 years of experience as a researcher, lecturer, consultant, and designer in the fields of human-food interaction design, sustainability education, design thinking and creative methods for innovative agri-food systems.

For 12 years she was the Academic Director of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Food Studies programs in Rome. She is currently the Academic Director of the Future Food Academy and senior researcher at the Barilla Foundation. She teaches “Sustainability Design Thinking” at Roma Tre University and “Sociology of Change – New Sustainable Scenarios” at ISIA and food design modules in several European universities.

Co-founder of FORK, an international no-profit organization dedicated to food design, board member of the Association for the Study of Food and Society and of the International Journal of Food Design. She coordinates the ADI Index food design commission and has authored 50+ publications in scientific journals, reports, books, as well as articles on magazines. The title of her last book is: “Trans-disciplinary Case Studies on Design for Food and Sustainability”.
