Nikolas Albarran
Nikolas Albarran is a Principal Engineer at MakerHealth where he focuses on developing technologies for democratized medical prototyping for doctors, nurses and patients in healthcare systems. His previous experience as a researcher at Little Devices Lab at MIT includes the development of rapid diagnostic development for detection of Ebola and Dengue pathogens, plug and play microfluidic systems and construction kits for remote epidemiological monitoring in fields sites in Nicaragua and Chile. At MakerHealth, Nikolas is responsible for managing the rapid prototyping capacity in the MakerNurse initiative and operations for the MakerHealth hospital makerspace network. Through these units, he established the first American hospital makerspace to enable rapid prototyping near the bedside. He is a guest lecturer in MIT HST’s MakerLab class, aimed at medical prototyping and clinical co-design for devices. Nikolas is a graduate MIT’s Mechanical Engineering department with a specialization in product design.
