FABSPACE 2.0

FabSpace 2.0 is the open-innovation network for geodata-driven innovation – Space data in particular - in Universities 2.0, funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme. The FabSpace 2.0 project aims at making universities open innovation centres for their region and improving their contribution to the socio-economic and environmental performance of societies. To achieve these general objectives, the project offers to concentrate on one research area with high expected socio-economic impact: data-driven innovation, with a particular attention to Earth observation data

Fabio Del Frate received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering in 1992 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 1997, both from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, Italy. From September 1995 to June 1996 he was Visiting Scientist with the Research Laboratory of Electronics of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA. In 1998 and 1999 he was with the ESRIN centre, European Space Agency, Frascati, Italy, as a Research Fellow and was engaged in projects concerning end-to-end remote sensing applications. Currently he is an Associate Professor at University of “Tor Vergata”, where he teaches courses on Remote Sensing and Applied Electromagnetism in different Master and PhD Programs. He has been principal investigator/project manager in several ESA and ASI (Italian Space Agency) funded research projects, author of numerous scientific publications with a special focus on feature extraction algorithms from EO data using neural networks, reviewer for the most important international journals in the field of remote sensing, Associate Editor for Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, Guest Editor for the Eurasip Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, Senior Member of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. EUMETSAT Associate Scientist. He was leading the group that won the Data Fusion Contest organized by IEEE GRS-S Data Fusion Technical Committee in 2007 and 2008. In 2006 he co-founded GEO-K, the first spin-off company of the University of Tor Vergata
