RANK: a robotic ankle

RANK (Robotic ANKle) is an active wearable ankle exoskeleton developed within a European Project. RANK is designed to prevent the drop-foot event and assist walking. RANK allows active movements only in the sagittal plane. The mechanical structure of the exoskeleton is composed by: (i) a brace for the connection with the user shank; (ii) a module for the transmission of the torque; and (iii) a sensorized insole for the human movement recognition.

Stefano Rossi, Juri Taborri, Giovanni Mariani

Stefano Rossi (M) is Associate Professor and PhD advisor at the Department of Economics, Engineering, Society and Business Organization of Tuscia University. He is the Coordinator of the master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and the head of the Industrial Measurements & Experimental Biomechanics Laboratory. He has more than 10 years of experience in the design of experimental setup to investigate metrological aspects of sensors in the field of Experimental Mechanics and Biomechanics. His research is focused on the design of new robotic systems for the movement recovery and the individuation of indices to objectively measure human motor performance by means of inertial systems, optoelectronic systems, and electromyography.

Juri Taborri is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Thermal Measurements at University of Tuscia in Viterbo, Italy. His research interests include artificial intelligence applied to biomedical applications, biomechanical measurements, validation and metrological characterization of innovative sensor systems and control of robotic device for rehabilitation. He is also founder of the startup Tech4All, whose mission is to design and implement digital applications for education and inclusivity.
