Unusual locomoting robots!
Come learn about the science behind legged locomotion with four exciting and unusual robots! Control Spokey, the rimless wheel, by moving your arm up and down. RoboFrog jumps by using a unique mechanism to store and release elastic energy. Choose the number of limbs on our multilegged robot and watch how its motion changes. FlipWalker’s movements are inspired by the mechanics of a simple archaic toy. Our robots are fun but also illustrate biological and non-biological locomotion principles used in current robotics research.
Ingenuity Labs Research Institute
Ingenuity Labs Research Institute is a collaborative research initiative at Queen’s University focused on creating intelligent systems and robotic machines that enhance human productivity, safety, performance, and quality of life. Their expertise spans a continuum—from artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cyber-human systems, to robot control, smart sensors, and mechatronic devices. Dr. Amy Wu (Assistant Professor, head of the Biomechanics x Robotics Laboratory) will lead the Institute team at this event. Graduate students Paul Riek and Bastiaan Hagen are your wacky robot wranglers!
