Tracking clouds and rain with low cost GPS chips

Water vapour in the atmosphere slows down Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals. This observation has been used to infer
precipitable water vapor (PWV) content in the atmosphere since the 1990's.
It is feasible to track clouds and to predict rainfall using
a network of GNSS receivers and such networks are available in
many developed countries. This project aims to develop an
accurate system for PWV estimation at a fraction of the cost of
current systems using low
cost GNSS receivers. This will allow for
network densification and use in developing
economies.
