From Virtual Taekwondo to Magnetism, Science is Magic at Maker Faire Rome 2025

At Maker Faire Rome 2025, sport, technology, and inclusion come together. This is thanks to two innovations: Virtual Taekwondo and the Dobok of the Future. The project, located in Area F of the Ostiense Gasometer, is a collaboration between FITA and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS Sport, bringing virtual reality to an innovative discipline. Thanks to headsets and sensors, every physical move is transformed into digital action, overcoming physical and social barriers. You can discover Virtual Taekwondo, a sport that combines technology, traditional values, and augmented reality, and discover the Dobok of the Future.

Because it’s worth your time

The project promotes sports inclusion through wearable technologies and augmented reality, creates new training opportunities with courses for technicians and industry professionals, prepares an Italian delegation for the 2027 Esports Olympic Games, to be held in Riyadh, and engages school communities, makers, and athletes in activities that combine sport and innovation.
Il futuro

The Virtual Taekwondo project is rapidly evolving. FITA is preparing the Italian delegation for the 2027 Esports Olympic Games in Riyadh and developing the Dobok of the Future together with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Courses are planned to train qualified operators and disseminate VTKD in schools and sports centers.

Science, what magic

But if you’re fascinated by the grand spectacle of science, you absolutely must visit Palco Education (Area L), where during the three days of Maker Faire Rome, the Scienza Divertimento Roma association will be presenting “Electricity and Magnetism – the show” an engaging and spectacular scientific show designed to pique the audience’s curiosity and teach while having fun. Two actor-scientists will guide adults and children in the discovery of electrical and magnetic phenomena through surprising experiments that seem almost magical, but are pure science.

Among the instruments used are the Van der Graaf generator, to experience static electricity firsthand; the graphite bulb, to demonstrate conduction; and supermagnets, which reveal the invisible power of magnetism.

The show is designed to stimulate scientific curiosity, raise questions, and provide simple yet rigorous explanations of the principles governing electricity and magnetism.
