E-Horizon Project

From video games to dragons, to mini racing cars: at Maker Faire Rome 2025, you can learn with your hands

At Maker Faire Rome 2025, taking place from October 17th to 19th at the Gazometro Ostiense, we love video games. Not just playing them, of course, but also creating them. We’re so passionate about this that we’re dedicating space to the Accademia Italiana Videogiochi, which will be hosting an interactive lab at the fair where visitors can try out video games developed by students during their studies. The titles on display are created within the Game Design, Game Programming, and Game Art courses, in collaboration between multidisciplinary classes.

The idea is not just to play, as mentioned, but also to engage directly with the authors and teachers, getting to know the development process: from idea to finished product. Where? Search HERE in the special area of the fair dedicated to gaming and the interaction between video games and learning (where there will also be live shows dedicated to scientific dissemination and numerous workshop areas where you can literally “build” an educational experience).

A true academy

The Italian Videogame Academy was the first training center in Italy dedicated entirely to video game development. Since 2004, it has trained industry professionals with annual courses and workshops, in collaboration with industry companies. The instructors are industry professionals, and the courses are based on real-world projects, developed in teams.

From the academy to flying dragons

But that’s not all. For video game lovers, there’s Il Volo del Drago: Let’s Create a Video Game Together, a creative lab curated by Massimiliano Aiazzi (a carpenter and craftsman who invents games and interactive worlds, combining manual skill with a passion for digital) to work together on a video game called “Il Volo del Drago.” Visitors will be able to discover how 3D models, animations, and environments are created. The project stems from an artisanal and imaginative approach, where technology meets manual skill.

E-Horizon Project – Mini racing cars, maxi future

And then it’s off to the track. In space E.22, right next to the Gasometer, the team from the Associazione Italiana Makers Automotive is ready with their E-Horizon Project, a school project that involves students in creating 1:10 scale racing cars. Using tools like CAD, 3D printing, and electronics, the students design and assemble fully functional prototypes, ready for track racing.

The goal? To introduce new generations to the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through a hands-on, engaging, and highly educational activity.

Technology + Creativity = Innovation. In this project, technology and creativity blend seamlessly: the kids freely design the vehicle’s shape and structure, use design software and electronic components to make it work, and test the cars on the track, improving performance and reliability.

In short, learning by doing, turning ideas into real prototypes.
