A startup creates a device to monitor elderly patients 24/7 thanks to artificial intelligence

The project  helps hospital staff and caregiver to monitor the safety of elderly – or at risk – patients 24 hours a day.

The management of security systems for the elderly, especially those in unstable medical conditions, has a huge impact on the costs and efficiency of hospital facilities. In addition to needing staff prepared for every type of occurrence, they must maintain patient monitoring throughout the day and also during the night. This is an especially difficult task when it comes to large numbers of patients or the necessity to deal with complex pathologies

.

To support the healthcare staff in these tasks, the startup Sma-Rty has created SleEPy – Smart Safety for Elderly People, an intelligent monitoring system for elderly patients.

SleEPy is an Italian-French project that aims to integrate Artificial Intelligence with visual recognition technologies, to assist human beings in performing repetitive tasks  such as monitoring vital signs, surveillance, and anomaly detection.

Constant elderly patient monitoring

Through its sensors, SleEPy collects patient status data, such as skin temperature, heart rate or body movement. By reprocessing these data, Artificial Intelligence is able to detect problems in real time and report them to healthcare providers. In this way, healthcare workers can monitor and take care of many patients contemporaneously, thereby, improving the timeliness of their interventions and consequently, the safety of the elderly and at-risk patients.
