Practical and beneficial technology that will improve the lives of many people
Technology that is practical, useful, and directed toward contexts where concrete help is needed is that which often gives the greatest confidence in the possibility of making the kind of real progress that until recently was unthinkable.
Blind Helper Voice which is a speech synthesizer that connects to various commonly used instruments and devices, such as clinical thermometers, scales, and others, specifically designed to interact with those who cannot see. Blind Helper Voice is a project conceived and realized by a group of students at the IIS Rita Levi Montalcini in Acqui Terme, in the province of Alessandria (Italy).
These young Italian makers have developed, in addition to Voice, also Blind Helper Braille, an economic Braille printer made for scholastic use employing 3D technology, as well as an audiobook reader, an electronic dropper for medicines, an acoustic keychain, and a light detector. Both projects are based on easy to use Arduino software and hardware which are fundamental for making daily actions simple and safe for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Along with many oher innovations in the field of electronics and assistive technology for people with disabilities, Blind Helper Voice Toolkit and Blind Helper Braille Toolkit will be present at Maker Faire Rome – the European Edition 2019, the world-famous innovative technology fair that will be held from 18 to 20 October at the Fiera di Roma.
