  • DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND HEALTH AND SAFETY powered by Inail
To ensure a safe and sustainable digital transformation, it is essential to assess new risks arising from the introduction of specific technological solutions in production contexts from the initial design and implementation phases. This involves defining roles, spaces, tasks, and responsibilities precisely, collaboratively, and consciously. Additionally, workers involved in transforming workplaces and tools must be adequately informed and trained to address change and seize opportunities for improving their skills through digital transformation. Traditional methods of identifying and assessing risks related to workers’ health and safety are not always suitable for evaluating the system as a whole, considering all its properties. Therefore, new paradigms and safety assessment methods are needed to address the increasing complexity of work environments, such as those leveraging the principles of Resilience Engineering (RE). The tools presented provide companies with a self-assessment of risk management methods and training strategies related to specific technological solutions. These tools have been developed based on the results of the BRIC 2019-ID50 Tradars research project, which experimented with the Resilience Analysis Grid (RAG) methodology for assessing the potential resilience of organizations in terms of health and safety concerning the implementation of Cobot technology.

  • PROSTHETIC IMPRESSIONS: TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AT YOUR SERVICE powered by Centro protesi INAIL
Impression is the most important part of a prosthesis because, by containing the residual limb, it forms the interface with the person. If it is not adequate, it can cause injuries and pain, leading to less acceptance of the prosthesis and a reduction in autonomy in daily life activities. A personalized impression, perfectly adapted to the characteristics of the individual patient, is therefore a fundamental requirement for the success of the prosthetic-rehabilitative treatment. However, there is currently no unique way to construct the impression, often depending on the skill and experience of the orthopedic technician: there are multiple options for making the cast of the residual limb, choosing the materials with which it will be built, and aligning it with the other elements that make up the prosthetic device. It is not uncommon to have to create multiple versions before arriving at the one that satisfies the patient the most, causing considerable stress for the person who must wear it and an increase in production times and costs. For this reason, the Centro Protesi INAIL is developing innovative techniques through applied research projects in collaboration with important scientific partners at the national level (University of Padua) and internationally (Northwestern University in Chicago and Minneapolis Veterans Administration Health Care System).

  • INTELLIGENT & INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES FOR WORKER PROTECTION powered by Inail
Intelligent & innovative technologies can contribute to managing and improving worker safety and health. In workplaces, virtual reality (VR), smart personal protective equipment (PPE), sensors on smartphones, or wearable sensors are increasingly used where there are higher risks due to the complexity of work environments. VR simulations reproduce risky activities without real risks. The purpose is to “emotionally train,” guide towards useful behaviors to reduce risks, and stimulate learning. It is possible to generate prediction, classification, monitoring, and decision-making models useful in all safety management phases. The enhancement of PPE functions has focused on improving the integration of emerging technologies. Developments include advanced communication, sensors for constant monitoring of work and environmental conditions, and the ability to interface and control machinery based on location and specific authorizations. Smartphones are ubiquitously used and equipped with integrated sensors with MEMS technology. The microphone is one of these and can be used by apps for general analysis of acoustic signals and specific noise measurement, making the smartphone similar to a professional instrument.
