XoSoft: Soft modular biomimetic exoskeleton

XoSoft: Soft modular biomimetic exoskeleton

The XoLab group is focused on the research and development of wearable robots for use in industry, health and space applications.

In the area of industrial exoskeletons, we are currently working in collaboration with INAIL (the Italian Workers' Compensation Authority) for the development of assistive devices to help workers during manual handling tasks. These systems target the reduction of the risk of injury with the corresponding improvement of the working conditions of the workers and the reduction of the compensation costs.

In the field of exoskeletons for health applications, within the XoSoft EU Project, we developed a soft exoskeleton (also called exosuit) for the assistance of subjects with a low to medium level of mobility impairments on the lower limbs, including elderly people, post-stroke patients and incomplete SCI patients.

We are also collaborating with the European Space Agency for the evaluation of the potential use of exoskeleton in space applications. This study is focused on the assessment of these system to help the astronauts during long periods in micro-gravity conditions, avoiding the loss of muscle tone and bone mass.
