The project concerns the development of an active building component for the cladding of facades of new or existing buildings. This component was implemented through the integration of photovoltaic technology and energy storage. The object of the project was also the development of control and power electronics for managing the energy produced/stored, and the entire building system to be applied to vertical facades, including thermal insulation. The result was a building component prototype (70x70cm) that can be easily connected to other modules and installed on the wall. A demonstrator of a faÃ§ade of 12 modules was realized for the experimental phase. The project was developed by CNR-ITAE in collaboration with Tecnicoop and SISC companies.

Drought dynamics reveal a time gap between the onset of a drought event and the management of the drought emergency, but often this gap is too wide to effectively reduce the impacts. The Drought Observatory (https://drought.climateservices.it/en/) developed by CNR-IBIMET could fill this gap. It is an operational system providing Open, detailed and timely information and technical support to decision-makers, water authorities, researchers and stakeholders to enhance mitigation and adaptation plans. In particular, the coupled rainfall-based and satellite-derived monitoring system both provides multiple time scale occurrence and duration of drought, and allows the assessment of vegetation conditions at different spatio-temporal scales.

A fluorescence-based optical platform for the simultaneous measurement up to four different biomarkers in serum or plasma samples has been developed; an optical chip with thirteen different channels is the heart of the instrument. Fluorescence detection is performed by means of the implementation of a sandwich assay with the secondary antibody properly labelled with a fluorophore. Attention was focused on procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 and soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR), with suPAR being considered in the last years as an important prognostic biomarker for sepsis. Two measurement campaigns have been carried out with the developed device at the Attikon University Hospital (Athens, Greece) and at Center for Sepsis Control and Care of the UniversitÃ¤tsklinikum Jena (Jena, Germany).

PLANarm2 is an end-effector-based parallel robot for neurorehabilitation. It allows the patient to practice planar movements of his hand, exploiting both elbow and shoulder movements. The movement of the manipulandum held by the patient is controlled by two motors. The device is equipped with two load cells to measure the force exchanged with the patient. Force-based and adaptive control algorithms enable the device to help the patient in performing rehabilitation tasks according to his capabilities and his level of impairment. A graphic environment proposes interactive and engaging tasks. The device has been designed to be clamped on one side of a table, also in a domestic environment. The modularity of the ROS-based control system will enable a straightforward integration of additional devices

The method is based on the concept that the central nervous system coordinates muscles and joints according to predefined schemes that simplify the ability to perform complex movements. Both in laboratory and in clinical settings, synergies are calculated through the use of special sensors and instrumentation. Synergy Lab presents some applications in the muscular field related to the upper limb and muscle-kinematics related to the use of the hand for grasping. Furthermore, Synergy Lab will present an application based on a Kinect V2 commercial sensor that allows synergies to be applied even with low-cost technologies, in various contexts

Frame by frame, the missiles turn into very acid and synthetic-minimalist architectures I titled Compressions-Houses inspired by Newton Cenotaph. Through vertical-horizontal movements, the rockets disappear in straight lines and points, reappearing under the guise of defused bombs because transformed into architectures.

The GrassRoller is a mechanical device in which a roll of grass moves over the participantâ€™s body. The machine consists of an horizontal platform, an aluminium structure and a 6 feet wooden roller covered with a layer of lawn activated by an hand-crank activated mechanism. The participant lies on the aluminum bench and upon pushing a lever, waits for the roller to slide upon his body. The uncanny experience lasts for about 3 seconds. This Rube Goldberg machine-like contraption plays with irony on the ambiguous relationship between human and his environment: a contraption whose only purpose is to evenly, relentlessly roll green turf over your body. This contraption, so predominant and grand in its scale, evokes fear and a potential of bliss that resemble the legacy of the bachelor machines: from Kafkaâ€™s â€œIn The Penal Colonyâ€, via Raymond Roussel, and Duchamp to Tinguely.
