Sviluppo Campania

Campania Region has a dynamic R&I ecosystem and brings know-how composed of research centres, universities, high-tech districts, incubators and accelerators, Startups and Spin-offs can trigger virtuous processes of knowledge transfer to the business world, generating a positive environment to the creation of new businesses.

• 7 UNIVERSITIES (12 thousand researchers and teachers, 235 thousand students, in third place in Italy by number of students)

• 40 ADVANCED RESEARCH CENTRES active in technology transfer and innovation services

• 7 TECHNOLOGICAL DISTRICTS and 21 PUBLIC PRIVATE LABORATORIES active in the strategic regional sectors (aerospace, biotechnology, health and agribusiness, energy and environment, sustainable construction, cultural heritage and tourism, new materials, nanotechnology, transport and logistics)

• 33 STRUCTURES SUPPORTING THE NEW ENTREPRENEURSHIP (incubators, science and technology parks, fablabs, accelerators and business service centres)

• 6 CERTIFIED INCUBATORS (Campania Newsteel, from the partnership between Università degli Studi Federico II and Città della Scienza, 012 Factory, InCibum Lab, Incubatore Campano, Startup Europa and Incubatore SEI)

• 1387 INNOVATIVE STARTUPS and 173 INNOVATIVE SMEs (September 2022)

The Region is second in Italy for youth entrepreneurship rate under-35. At 3 it is placed among the Italian regions and first in Southern Italy for number of innovative startups. Naples is the third city in Italy and Salerno at the 8th place in the Italian ranking by number of startups.

First in Southern Italy for contribution to the value added of the manufacturing sector (more than 30% of the total), an increase of 13.2% since 2015, Campania is the second region in Italy for growth rate of SMEs in the last 5 years (+26.6%) In the Southern Italy, for the number of SMEs (10,627, 33% of the total). Investments in the 2014-2020 european planning for Research & Innovation, Digital Agenda and Competitiveness are about 1 billion euros and attest to Campania as the seventh in Italy and before the Southern Italy with growth of 3.0% (against a nation value of +2.6%).

The Campania Region is at the forefront of development strategies in the Open Innovation perspective: the first Italian region to have a structured and continuous marketplace, to facilitate matching between innovation demand expressed by large companies and public administration, and technology from startups, spin-offs and SMEs. 1800 users subscribed to the platform https://openinnovation.regione.campania.it/ , 290 organizations: Small, Media and Large Business, 62 challenges launched, 270 innovative solutions, 12 thematic communities.
