Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane is the main Italian railway company and Italy’s top industrial group in terms of investments (€5.6bn in 2017) with financial figures that are amongst the best in Europe. The FS Italiane Group employs about 82,000 people that handle over 10,000 trains a day, of which 8,000 in Italy and 2,000 abroad, and 250,000 bus/kilometres. FS Italiane transported around 750 million passengers by train, 300 million by bus and 50 million tonnes of freight in 2017. The rail network, managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, is over 16,800 kilometers long, of which more than 1,400 are reserved to high-speed trains. Trenitalia provides mobility solutions to people through service contracts with Italian Regions and the State. Trenitalia is carrying out a plan to revolutionize regional railway transport in Italy with an investment of €4.2bn to purchase 517 new regional trains, called Rock and Pop. FS Italiane is one of the main transport operators on the European market: first in Greece through Trainose, second in Germany where it operates with TX Logistik and Netinera. FS Italiane is also present in the UK with c2c, in France through Thello and in Holland with Qbuzz. The FS Italiane Group also exports Made in Italy technological and engineering excellence in the Mediterranean area, the Middle East, Latin America, the United States, India, Australia and the Balkans.
