3D-printed chemical and biochemical microreactor
The contribution of continuous flow chemo- and bio- microreactors toward sustainable and green processes is multifaceted and involves both industry and academia. If safety, scalability, and reduced capital cost are prominent targets for the companies, smaller equipment for flow reactions are also attractive at lab-scale, because they allow a fast screening and easy online monitoring of processes. In this contest, we designed and prototype two miniaturized systems:1) one microreactor able to control the progress of catalytic reactions and 2) one bio-microreactor for studying the metabolites of active substances.

Dr. Simone Manetto is a PhD student at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies of the University of Rome "Sapienza" since November 2019. He graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies with a score of 108/110 on 01/2018. Following his graduation, he obtained a research grant related to the project: "Highly efficient chromatographic methods in the study of drugs and chiral intermediates", funded by "Chiesi Farmaceutici SPA", at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies of the University of Studies of Rome "Sapienza". His doctoral work will focus on the study of physical methods in organic chemistry for the separation of enantiomers of pharmaceutical interest, on the development of new chiral stationary phases, and on the transfer of reactions in flow chemistry systems.
