#CNR4All - CONTROLLO BIOLOGICO DI UNA SPECIE ALIENA INVASIVA: Callinectes sapidus

The Atlantic blue crab Callinectes sapidus is an Invasive Alien Species that arrived in Europe through ballast waters. In Lesina lagoon, the population has stabilized, as much as local fishermen complain of the ever- present quantities that cause damages to the fishing gear and to commercial catches. In order to control the invasion of the blue crab, new policies must be identified for the exploitation of a product whose commercial value is highly known outside the European continent. In Lesina lagoon, the production of soft shell crab in parallel with a selective fishing of individuals, could be a useful system for a diversification of the product and a biological control of the species.

Lucrezia Cilenti_ Degree in Biological Sciences with Marine and Oceanographic specialization at the Polytechnic University of Marche. PhD in Sustainable Agricultural Ecosystems at the University of Foggia. Since 2007 CNR researcher at the Institute for Biological Resources and Marine Biotechnologies (IRBIM). The main research topic aims at the management and diversification of natural resources in a sustainable and eco-compatible way, inspired by the guiding principles of Blue Growth. Particular attention is paid to the study of invasive alien species in transition environments, considering both their synecological and autoecological aspects. He is currently coordinator of the EMFF Puglia CatchUpFish and Clean & Care projects.
