“ProFacere” with Lego-like Reconfigurable Machine Tool

“ProFacere” with Lego-like Reconfigurable Machine Tool

The project concerns reconfigurable machine tools for manufacturing. A new architecture, based on an innovative screw-nut coupling, allows the machine tool’s bed main axis to extend without any limit by coupling multiple beds. Leadscrew racks, integral with the bed and protracting along the entire bed, make possible the movement of the crosstables by means of the screws engaged with the racks. The advantages are:
- unlimited extension of machining volume along the bed axis;
- possible integration of diverse technologies;
- simple reconfiguration according to the required production capacity.

He is co-inventor of the Reconfigurable Machining Center (PCT/IB2017/050737 application).

Doriana Marilena D'Addona received the M.Sc Degree in Electronics Engineering in 1999 (University of Naples Federico II). In 2003 she completed her Ph.D. programme in Intelligent Technology and Systems for Production Automation (University of Naples Federico II). Post-Doc Fellow, she worked from 2004 to 2006 on Intelligent Computation for Manufacturing Technology and Systems. Now she is Assistant Professor at the University of Naples Federico II, DICMaPI, Department of Chemical, Materials and Industrial Production Engineering. She is associate member of the CIRP (International Academy for Production Engineering). Her main research interests are focused on manufacturing processes and automation, intelligent computation for manufacturing technology and systems.

Margherita Monti got the M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985 from the university of Genova. She worked in Ansaldo S.p.A. until 1988 in the nuclear components structural design department. In 1992 she completed her Ph.D. programme in Machine Design. Since 1992 she is Assistant Professor at the University of Genova, DIME - Department of Mechanical, Energy, Management and Transportation Engineering. Now she holds the classes of Machine Design (Genova and La Spezia), Design of Machine Elements (in La Spezia). She is co-inventor of the Reconfigurable Machining Center (PCT/IB2017/050737 application).

Ivan Rosciano got a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Genova in 2017 discussing a project on the design and manufacturing of a CNC plasma cutting router. Now he attends the Master Course in Mechanical Engineering, Design and Manufacturing.
